We don't want that!

A conversation overheard...

Jr. : Don't paduththy daddy (do not touble daddy)
LO : (nods head vigorously and says) Ok. I know, If we paduththy daddy then he will die and then we will have a new daddy and we don't want that, right ?
Jr. : RIGHT !!

Daddy is a little disturbed right now!

No, this is not aananda kanneer (happy tears) that the girls don't want another daddy or daddy to die!

This is worry that they take it for granted that they will have another daddy? They have picked a non worthy replacement already ?

That is scary!

ps. (for those of you who saw my facebook entry, you should know that this comes at a very disturbing time..).

pps. for those who do not know, a new colleage at work comes to my desk, looks at the first portrait that San and me posed for 10 years ago and says "Hi, you used to be a handsome guy once!".. she said that without any remorse, not batting an eyelid, just matter of fact!! Had no answer to that one...

ppps. for those of you who are wondering where all the hansomeness went, look no further..(one of the photos from that set is at the bottom of this post)..

The Pledge of Allegiance

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands: one Nation under God, indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for all."

this is the pledge that kids learn in school when they salute the US Flag.

Adults learn it either when their kids go to school here or when they study for the Citizenship test. In our case Jr. had already taught us the pledge and we were off to a good start on the Citizenship test knowing all about the Flag, the pledge, etc. etc. when she was still in pre-school.

The little one has been at school for four exact weeks (considering she missed the first few weeks because of the trip to India) and this week she was saying the pledge to herself while playing with stuffed animals.

She was trying to memorize it better! Initially we thought she was blabbering something but when we asked her to say it, she put her hand on her heart and did it..

except for one mistake..

she said ".......indivisible, With Little bit of Justice for all."

instead of Liberty and Justice for all.

Jr. pounced on her school teacher style and said "Liberty! Its Liberty! Not Litle bit!!!" and has now fixed the small techicality..

This whole episode had me in spilts.. maybe we do have only a "little bit of justice for all"?!

Is my sarcasm rubbing off on the little one, a tad too early?

We are now aligned with Liberty folks.

Golumania

The photos of the golu displays will be published after Wednesday. Some folks are actually of the view, that this blog reveals too much about their golu and people will see the photos and not be in awe when they come to see the real display. So we will not spoil it for them, considering most of the people in this circle, read this blog!

The displays we saw this year, were a step up from last years golus!

While waiting for the ladies to do their song routine, and eating some sundal, started counting the dolls on one golu and just on the steps there were 148 pieces. The whole thing must have been close to 450-500 dolls! Hats off to the ladies who set it up.

Jr. has now been inspired by all those kids singing and playing various instruments. She wants to sing in next years golus and the music training might start soon! She was a bold girl this weekend and sang "I love you, you love me" a Barney song set to Adi Taal and got a lot of hugs and kisses. Hey, you can only sing what you have been taught!

The little one is going in a different direction altogether, and wants to learn...

guitar!

You can see for yourself, what she has been upto, in her non-paavaadai time, earlier today. Thanks to YaadaYaada we learnt that SETMAX is availabe free as a trial offer. We turned it on this morning and lo and behold...

Boy, are we in trouble...

There is always a first time

Ever since we saw the movie "Rock On" and introduced Jr. and the little one to the songs, they have been clamoring to get the songs played in the van.

We usually wait till our next India trip to get music CD's or get it through somoene who visits us. Considering we just came from India, we decided that for the first time, we will buy it from a local store. So, the search was on, to get the CD, but guess what? They did not expect the music to be such an overwhelming hit and so, the bay area stores were all out of the CD's. After waiting for a week, we finally managed to get a copy from Raaga. It was a couple of dollars more than what the rest of the stores would have charged, but we think it was worth it!

The kids have switched allegience from ARR (they were listening to Jaane Tu the last two weeks) to SEL for now!

This is one great CD, it is almost like an album. Hope these guys come up with many more. Why the local stores were not sure of it becoming a hit, we do not know. Beats me!

ps. Sorry I misspelt Ehsaan.. Too late to correct the video now..

Restrictions

Daddy is allowed to wear one of eight or nine T-shirts, total!

Anything else is not allowed.

The little one screams her head off!! if daddy wears anything else.

Turns away from daddy. One minute she is clingy and the next minute she is absolutely horrified that her daddy has become a shirt, coat, different color T-Shirt wearing monster!

We had observed this once before when daddy took a red T-shirt from the "archives", and wore it for old times sake, and she screamed. So, the T-shirt was changed again quickly, just to stop her. Not much was made of that incident.

At a company anniversary party, daddy decided to wear his old Tuxedo and she would refuse to come to him. To daddy's horror, she never came near him at the entire party and clung to mommy the whole time. Everyone called daddy a horrible liar for claiming that the little one was attached to him at all times!

Today, it was a 100+ degrees here! Came home and removed the T-shirt and stood in the hallway for a minute in my baniyan(in shirt). The little one starts panicking again.

LO : "Daddy, please wear the shirt. Dont be nanga thanga!(naked)"..
Me : But I am wearing a Baniyan! I am not nanga thanga. It is so hot..
LO : Please wear T-shirt back, NOW!!

and then goes to Mom and complains that she is scared of daddy not wearing T-shirt.

Next minute, I removed the baniyan and wore the T-Shirt and she ran back and climbed on my shoulders, smiled and gave me a big kiss.

Strange.. very strange..

Need to find a way to get her used to a multi colored daddy!
