A view of the future

If trying on grown up undergarments is bad, it gets worse...

(the secret video.. shows a door for almost a minute, but that is what secret video's are all about. Listen to the soundtrack for hilarious dialogues)

All this reference to babies has to do with peer pressure. Let me explain. Everytime, one of her classmates announces a baby brother or sister, or we go to see newborn babies of office colleagues, there is peer pressure on the real mommy in the house!

Typical conversation in the last few weeks:

Jr. : Mommy, can I have a baby?
Mom : No. when you grow up and become a big girl, maybe.
Jr. : When I am 10 years old?
Mom : aaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrghhh!

Jr. : Mommy, when is your tummy going to get big?
Mom : Not unless I eat a lot and put on weight..
Jr. : When will there be a baby in the tummy?
Mom : !! What part of No don't you understand?
Jr. : But, Mrs. xyz (a teacher in her school) is having a baby! and she already has kids..
Mom : Enakku maamiyaare vendam di, nee podum!(I dont need a mother in law here. You are enough to drive me up a wall!)

Add to these, the embrassasment of Jr. asking any women we know "do you have a baby in your tummy?" and they feel like strangling her! I bet this alone keeps the women who have recently put on some weight from visiting hour house!

In a fit of what can only be called 50% rage and 50% exasperation, mommy was heard cursing the little one yesterday.

Here is as close a literal translation as possible:

"I am cursing from the bottom of my heart, that you also have kids, who are exactly like you, and they trouble you, just like you trouble me! Only then you will know what I am going through now!"

On further investigation, found out that this curse runs in San's family and generation after generation, the moms curse their girls along these lines and the grandmoms smile, knowing that their curse came true!

Who knew?!

In any event, it is too late now. The curse has been passed on to one more generation.

ps. The MIL driving one up the wall reference, is more of a cultural thing. San gets along real swell with my mum.

When your pumpkin shrivels...

Just carve yourself a new one..

My workplace had a pumpkin carving contest. They gave us all a free pumpkin to carve. We also had the Halloween bash at Balaji's. Thought I could kill two birds with one stone and carved a nice one on sunday. By tuesday, the thing shrivelled and became so unrecognizable that it wouldn't be worth bringing anywhere near the display.

So I did one, last minute. Did not win, but got complimented by almost everyone. Made the kids very very happy when I got it home tonight.

Here it is..

Had to black out the spider on the surface so I wouldn't carve it out by mistake.

If only I could keep them from shrivelling so fast!

Sketch book

Went to Chuck E. Cheese (also known in our house as Kaakaa Kiss by the little one) for a birthday party.

As is customary now with every CEC visit, we took a sketch portrait.

Except, this one came out good..

Thinking of changing profile photo to this one now..

The little student

A conversation with the little one.

Me : Why did you drop it?
Little one : because
Me : Why ?
Little one : Because!
Me : Because, What?
Little one : Blank stare

I finally found out what was going on!

The little one thinks that the word "because" is a universal explanation by itself, for all her deeds. She actually thinks that the words follwing the "because", is some separate sentence or loose conversation! She has picked this up from her elder sister.

Bad teacher, Bad student!

Everytime we ask Jr. why she did or did not do something, she starts off instantly with a BeCAUse!!! (yes, she does exlaim the because) and then pauses to think for a reason (which is 99% bull and 1% genuine) and gives a reason.

Here is an example:

Me: Why did you pour out all the toys on the living room floor when it is already your bed time? Didn't your mom just clean the room?
Jr.: BeCAUse...
Jr.: My cousin is going to come here tomorrow evening and we will need all the toys to be on the floor, so it is ready to play!
Me : The bulls are really proud of you honey!
Jr.: The bulls are proud of ME?
Me : Yep.
(I actually say that to her.. she does not know what I mean, and so far is happy that someone is proud of her. When she asks me why the bulls are proud of her, I will have an explanation)

I know. I know. It is tough to teach a 4 year old the art of Sarcasm.

Sari fun

We went on a cleaning spree this afternoon. The dust got to me.

Now that I am full of allergy tablets, nasal sprays and the like, there is a little energy left to post something!

While cleaning up, we found the readymade Sari that we used for Jr. a few years ago (thanks to Bombay Paati)!

We did not have this blog when Jr. tried on the same Sari (but I managed to chase down that picture)..

Here is Jr. in a Sari (photo from November 2004).

Needless to say, she was a pro at wearing it as well as posing for a photoshoot.

Here is the little one.

She was soooo thrilled !

Girls, as previously stated in this blog, will be girls!!

The young one is learning a thing or two about posing from her akka...
