When your pumpkin shrivels...

Just carve yourself a new one..

My workplace had a pumpkin carving contest. They gave us all a free pumpkin to carve. We also had the Halloween bash at Balaji's. Thought I could kill two birds with one stone and carved a nice one on sunday. By tuesday, the thing shrivelled and became so unrecognizable that it wouldn't be worth bringing anywhere near the display.

So I did one, last minute. Did not win, but got complimented by almost everyone. Made the kids very very happy when I got it home tonight.

Here it is..

Had to black out the spider on the surface so I wouldn't carve it out by mistake.

If only I could keep them from shrivelling so fast!

Sundar, If this didn't win, I am really interested in seeing the one that did! Do you have a picture of the winning one?

Hi Sundar:
Usually I am a very passive reader of your posts. But today I couldnt resist myself but comment. This one really demands a recount.
You should post the pics of the one that won the contest.

Sundar:
Try applying petroleum jelly to the carved areas and the inside of the pumpkin.Do it with a cloth on the inside ,if you plan on lighting a candle. This prevents moisture loss and the pumpkins dont shrivel fast.

hi all,

thanks.

this did not win because it did not fit any of the categories for the prize.

most scary
most silly
most creative

:)

there is no prize for complexity and this one really shines with a light inside in the night.. they judged the pumpkiins in broad daylight.. which was kind of duh!

also, it was not just open to carved pumpkins, but drawn, painted, decorated ones.. some of them were very very good.. with eyes carved out, Mr. potato head nose, eye glasses, wig .. on the pumpkin.. hilarious..

there is more to fun than carving..

cheers.
